Until I travel to 99 countries

History

I like to travel. I picked up a camera because I wanted to keep the air of an unfamiliar city, and the light going past a window. It started as a private habit, and over time photography became the language I explain my life in.

I liked hanging those photographs at home and asking myself what I had been feeling that day. I did not want to keep that to myself — I wanted to make it into something that could hang on someone else's wall too.

That is how ninetynine studio began.

Identity

'Memory flatters. A photograph helps it along.'

When I come home and look again at the photos I took on a trip, what happened that day settles into memory and turns into a good moment. I enjoy that process. I would rather only the happy parts stayed in my head. So I hold on to every photograph I have taken, and I hope they do the same thing on someone else's wall.

Idea

I would rather make a photograph you want to look at again than one that is simply well taken. Instead of famous views, I choose the scenes I could only take because I happened to be standing there that day.

An ordinary afternoon somewhere, a moment with nothing special about it. Those are the ones that grow clearer with time, and those are the ones I print.

I will not put the camera down until I have travelled 99 countries.
